First Generation

June, Murray, and their young sons Colin and Stuart Campbell, purchased the orchard in 1967 with plans to focus on Murray’s passion for farming upon retirement from Ontario Hydro. An avid reader with a passion for growing, Murray taught himself to grow high quality produce while June learned to manage the storefront and market. After 10 years, the run-down farm had evolved into a thriving farm market with crops of raspberries, strawberries, wine grapes, a wide variety of vegetables, and of course - apples. Murray worked efficiently and had big dreams for the future of the farm - including a sugarbush and larger scaled operations. Unfortunately, Murray passed away in 1979 due to a small plane crash near Port Hope, Ontario. Today, we believe Murray’s passion for growing high quality produce, and community involvement is still expressed in subtle ways. Our sugarbush that was founded in 2018 was named “Murray’s Sugarbush” in his honour. June Campbell passed away in 2010 and still continues to influence our market’s culture. She treated every customer like an old friend and made it her priority to ensure everyone felt welcome at the farm. Both of their philosophies have been passed down and we hope that we make them proud every year.

Murray and June Campbell started the farm in 1969. At his side are sons Colin and Stuart. Colin succeeded the orchard at a young age and Stuart has remained heavily involved throughout the years. Chances are you will run into one of them at the storefront.

Second and Third Generation

Colin Campbell, the eldest son, grew up on the farm and was steadfast to the mentorship of his father Murray. For Colin, he naturally developed a passion for growing, selling, and customer service during his teenage years. He decided to expand on those skills and went to study towards a Bachelors of Agricultural Economics at Guelph University in 1976. Here, he met his beautiful wife Dianne Campbell who was also studying Economics. Once they graduated, they moved to Prince Edward County to take over the reins of the budding farm market in 1980. After 10 years of growing the farm and market, they expanded the family and had two children; Amelia and John (1989, 1991).

Born and raised

Amelia and John have spent their entire lives on the farm. They work together on the Cider and Wine enterprise.

Who knew

30 years later, Amelia (baby pictured) started Apple Falls Cider which currently operates in same building pictured.

On Christmas Eve in 1996, a devastating fire destroyed the entire market and all the farming equipment. The barn was revitalized with two new wings which now houses the kitchen and bakery, office storage, and packing area.

More recently in 2017, Amelia Campbell and her husband Matt Oskamp founded  “Apple Falls Cider” which produces tasty hard-apple-cider directly on-site using Campbell’s apples. John Campbell has taken an interest in producing maple syrup and wine - partially inspired by his grandfather Murray. In 2019 he and his father started a small boutique sugarbush called “Murray’s Sugarbush” which produces 300L of maple syrup annually. In 2022, John released his first vintage of “Marquette” wine under the Apple Falls label. It’s really good!

Amelia and Matt have recently added to the family further with the introduction of their daughter, Ayla, in August 2021, and their son, Oliver, in April 2024.
